Compress a PDF for Saudi Government Portals Without Losing Readability

A rejected attachment is not always too large. First read the error and the upload field: accepted formats, maximum size and document type are separate requirements. This is a practical file-preparation guide, not a claim that all Saudi portals use the same limit.

Read the upload field before choosing a target

Record the exact limit and unit displayed by your transaction. A photo limit from an Absher or visa guide is not evidence of the PDF limit for another upload field.

If the field does not accept PDF, compression will not fix the format mismatch. If the error concerns an expired document, missing authentication or incorrect applicant details, resolve that issue with the issuing or receiving authority instead.

Prepare a complete, readable original

Use the original digital document when available rather than screenshots of each page. For paper documents, scan in even light with the full page in view. Check small text before compression; reducing file size will not recover details missing from a blurry scan.

Keep an unchanged original. Do not crop out stamps, reverse-side content or page margins containing information to make the file smaller. Include the pages the recipient asks for, even when that means asking the recipient for an alternative submission method.

Compress a copy, then measure and inspect it

Use Aalejha's paid PDF compression service for document copies that you are authorised to process. Inspect the reported output size before paying and compare it with the portal's limit; compression does not guarantee a particular target size.

After downloading, open the actual output rather than relying only on a preview. Check every page, including the smallest text, signatures, stamps and any QR or barcode. Confirm the page count and orientation against the original.

If the output is still too large, do not repeatedly compress it until it becomes unreadable. Start again from the original with a suitable setting if available, improve an oversized scan, or ask the receiving office about permitted alternatives. Split documents only if its instructions allow separate files.

Be careful with signed or protected documents

Adobe explains that digital signatures can restrict or prevent editing. For a digitally signed, certified or protected PDF, keep the issuer's original and ask the recipient which submission method is acceptable. Do not assume compression or conversion preserves a verifiable signature.

Do not bypass document protection. Request an appropriate copy from the issuer if necessary. Upload sensitive documents only when authorised, and review the processing service's privacy policy first.

If the upload still fails

Check that you selected the new file, that its extension matches its actual format, and that it opens normally. Compare the error with the field's instructions again. A file under the size limit can still fail for content, format or service-related reasons.

For an Aalejha processing issue, send support your order reference and the exact error text. Do not send government account passwords or one-time codes. The receiving authority decides whether an attachment is accepted.

Frequently asked questions

What is the PDF size limit for Saudi government portals?

There is no single limit established by this guide. Use the size and format shown in the exact transaction's upload field.

Can every PDF be compressed below the required size?

No. Results depend on the source file and how much reduction is possible while keeping it readable. Check the output size and quality, and ask the recipient about alternatives if needed.

Can I rename a JPG file to .pdf?

No. Renaming an extension does not convert the file. Use a suitable conversion method only if the receiving service accepts the resulting format.
